Bar Exam Preparation Resources

This guide highlights resources available to bar exam takers.

Multistate Exam Components

The Uniform Bar Exam or UBE has been adopted by some but not all, jurisdictions. According to the NCBE, the UBE is composed of the MBE, MEE, and MPT. The test "is uniformly administered, graded, and scored and results in a portable score that can be transferred to other UBE jurisdictions." Florida has not adopted the UBE. Click here to see which states have.

  • According to the NCBE, the Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) consists of 200 multiple-choice questions, 175 of which are scored. The 175 scored questions on the MBE are distributed as follows: Civil Procedure (25), Constitutional Law (25), Contracts (25), Criminal Law and Procedure (25), Evidence (25), Real Property (25), and Torts (25). In Florida, the MBE is Part B of the bar exam.
  • According to the NCBE, the Multistate Essay Examination (MEE) is a series of six 30-minute essay questions that could cover "Business Associations (Agency and Partnership; Corporations and Limited Liability Companies), Civil Procedure, Conflict of Laws, Constitutional Law, Contracts (including Article 2 [Sales] of the Uniform Commercial Code), Criminal Law and Procedure, Evidence, Family Law, Real Property, Torts, Trusts and Estates (Decedents' Estates; Trusts and Future Interests), and Article 9 (Secured Transactions) of the Uniform Commercial Code. Some questions may include issues in more than one area of law. The particular areas covered vary from exam to exam." Click the link above to find out where the MEE is administered. It is not part of the Florida bar exam.
  • According to the NCBE, the Multistate Performance Test or MPT consists of two "90-minute items" that test practical skills. A case file and library of resources are provided, and the test-taker must decide what to use in response to an assignment from a fictional supervising attorney. It is part of the bar exam in certain jurisdictions. This is not part of the Florida bar exam.
